Despite the sunshine, the day we "crossed the circle" was probably one of the coldest, as the wind sprang up to around 40 knots (around 75 km/h). Nothing too
special for Antarctica, I'm sure, but it let us know we were alive. The Antarctic Circle itself is at 66° 33.6' South, is approximately 2,600 km from the
South Pole and encompasses virtually all of the Antarctic continent. Only the Peninsula extends outside the circle in any meaningful way.
