Grand cru country .... south of the village of Gevrey Chambertin in the Cote de Nuits, this region produces some wonderful red wines. It turned out that the
weekend I was in Burgundy was (unbeknown to me when I arranged my trip) the weekend of the Hospices de Beaune - the world's largest and most famous charity wine
auction. Of course it made accommodation somewhat interesting, but with hindsight, it was a great time to visit. Beaune was thriving with activity, special tastings,
street performers, parades and more.
