It's amazing the small differences in location and micro-climate that distinguish vineyards and
appellations in France - one side of the road might be Grand
Cru and the other is not. And the plots of land are tiny. For example, the Clos de Vougeot vineyard is only 50ha but is divided between some 80 winegrowers
cultivating 100 different plots. This image was made just outside the village of Gevrey
Chambertin, which has the distinction of having the highest number of Grand
Crus in Burgundy.
