Well, yes, there's an all-too-obvious reason why they call it the red centre. This is on the way from Alice Springs to Chamber's Pillar, which is only around 160km
south of Alice Springs, but it's relatively slow travelling on (often corrugated) dirt roads and, nearer to the pillar itself, sand dunes.
